Somerset have extended the contract of wicketkeeper Jos Buttler by a further three years. The 20-year-old scored his maiden first-class century last season and was part of the Somerset side beaten in the final of both one-day competitions. Buttler told the club website: "I had a brilliant season in 2010 which far exceeded by own expectations. "I was more comfortable playing one-day cricket and during the winter I will look to develop my Championship game." Buttler, who has represented England at under-19 level, is a product of the Somerset academy and signed his first professional contract at Taunton back in 2009. | I think by giving Jos a three-year contract we are giving him the chance to progress Somerset director of cricket Brian Rose |
Somerset director of cricket Brian Rose added: "Jos has made a great impact in one-day cricket. "Some of the innings that he has played for someone of his age has been quite outstanding. "He reminds me of a young Ian Botham, demonstrating that sort of talent at that level straight away in one-day cricket. "He has a lot of work to do in the first-class game and that is what we will be concentrating on with him over the next six months. "I think by giving Jos a three-year contract we are giving him the chance to progress, in both the cricket he is playing and the financial rewards he is receiving."
