Somerset wicketkeeper Buttler has a great act to follow

Buttler hit an unbeaten 22 against Glamorgan

Somerset teenager Jos Buttler says he hopes to follow in the footsteps of fellow wicketkeeper Craig Kieswetter.

The 19-year-old, from Wedmore, played his first game as keeper in the Clydesdale Bank 40 win over Glamorgan, replacing England's Kieswetter.

"I'd love to play like Craig," Buttler told BBC Radio Somerset.

"He is a great example to me and the other younger players at the county, of what can be achieved through hard work and performances."

Kieswetter's explosive start as Somerset's wicketkeeper batsman quickly attracted the attention of the England selectors, who have made him first choice for the World Twenty20 in the West Indies.

Buttler made a big impression in Sunday's victory over Glamorgan in Cardiff, hitting an unbeaten 22 before taking two fine catches.

"I've known for a while that Craig was going to be away which, in a way has maybe been a bit harder," he said.

"There's a longer time to build up nerves. When you're thrown in at the deep end, if there's an injury or something, that can almost be a bit easier because you haven't been thinking about it.

"But I've trained hard with Craig himself and picked up a few things from him."

He added: "I'm in a similar position to where he was three years ago and I'd love to go the way he's gone."

"I am my individual self and, if comparisons are made comparisons are made, but I would love to play like Craig and follow in his footsteps."
