Barrow and Buttler are on the books of Somerset CCC |
Two players from King's College Taunton have broken the record for the best opening stand in a 50-over national schools game with a partnership of 340. Jos Buttler, 17, and 15-year-old Alex Barrow lasted for 49.3 overs against King's Bruton before Barrow was eventually dismissed for 95. Wicketkeeper-batsman Buttler hit 25 fours and eight sixes in his unbeaten 227 as King's ended on 342 for 1. Both players are on the books of Somerset CCC as emerging players. Former Somerset favourite Dennis Breakwell, now head groundsman and coach at King's, said: "This opening partnership warrants every accolade it can get. "It is a fantastic moment for cricket at King's and an outstanding achievement for the two batsmen." King's College Taunton won the game after bowling the visitors out for 65, with Nathan Smith (4/26) and Ross Chadwick (3/7) doing most of the damage.
