Andrew scored 4230 first-class runs for Northants

Former Northamptonshire captain Keith Andrew has died at the age of 81.

The Lancashire-born wicketkeeper made 351 first-class appearances for the county between 1953 and 1966 - the last five of those seasons as skipper.

His 653 catches and 157 stumpings for Northants were a record number of dismissals for the county.

Andrew played two Tests for England, making his debut against Australia in 1954 before waiting nine years for a second cap, against the West Indies.

And he might have played more often for England, had his career not coincided with that of the great Godfrey Evans.

In 1965, Andrew failed by just four points to lead Northamptonshire to a first Championship title.

In 1984, he was appointed to succeed Ken Turner as Northamptonshire secretary. But he later turned down the job, instead taking up a role with the National Cricket Association until his retirement in 1994.
