Former Worcestershire and Northamptonshire batsman Jim Yardley has died in Canada, aged 64. The Chaddesley Corbett-born left-hander moved to Northampton from Worcester in 1976, appearing in three Lord's finals before his retirement in 1982. In all first-class cricket he scored 8,287 runs, taking 232 catches, most of them at slip. Yardley captained Northants' second XI for a season in 1983, before leading County League side Overstone Park. Yardley hit five first-class centuries in his career, four of them for his native Worcestershire, for whom he hit 4,865 runs in 153 matches at 25.33. He then went on to make 3,422 runs for Northamptonshire in 107 matches at 26.52.
