Wigley joined Northants after spells with Yorkshire and Worcestershire |
Fast bowler David Wigley is one of three players released by Northants. The club has also parted company with batsmen Vishal Tripathi and Paul Harrison who have both slipped down the pecking order this season. Wigley, 28, joined Northants from Worcestershire in 2006 but has been dogged recently by fitness problems. "It's been hugely frustrating this year, firstly with ongoing injuries and then being ill which has finished my time with Northants," he said. "But I fully understand the club's decision. "I'm equally excited about the next stage of my life and I need to give huge thanks to the changing rooms of Northants and the opposition, where I've made some good friends." Tripathi, 22, arrived at Wantage Road on a short-term deal at the start of this season while 26-year-old Harrison, who can also keep wicket, joined the staff last year after impressing on trial. Both had only limited first-team chances due to the form of the likes of Rob Newton and David Murphy. "I'd like to wish both Paul and Vishal all the best for their respective futures," said Northants' head coach David Capel. "The club felt it was best for them to explore other avenues as it was unlikely they'd receive the number of opportunities they may have liked." Commenting on Wigley's departure, Capel added: "I just want to say a big thank you to David for his wholehearted contribution to Northants cricket, both on and off the field."
