Wakely has been involved with Northants since the age of 14

Northants pair Alex Wakely and David Murphy have agreed new contract extensions to keep them at Wantage Road until at least 2012.

The two 21-year-olds, both products of the Northants academy, have figured prominently in the county's first team this season.

"I feel my game has moved in the right direction this year," said batsman Wakely, who joined in 2008.

"The side is well balanced with a mix of youth and experience."

Wicketkeeper Murphy has featured in the first XI since Ireland international Niall O'Brien was sidelined following surgery on a damaged finger in July.

"I've enjoyed every minute of it so far and long may that continue," Murphy said.

"I feel I've contributed well to the team cause and I just want to continue to improve."
