Boje captained Northants for two full seasons |
Northants chief executive Mark Tagg has confirmed that all-rounder Nicky Boje will not be returning to Wantage Road next season. South African Boje, 37, captained the county from 2008 until May when he resigned and was replaced by compatriot Andrew Hall. "Nicky made it clear at the start of the season that he didn't plan to come back," Tagg told BBC Radio Northampton. "He's been one of the best overseas players in the country." Boje has missed cricket this summer because of a finger injury and now heads home to team up with Port Elizabeth-based Warriors ahead of the Champions League T20 tournament. He made his Northants debut on a short-term contract at the end of 2007 and the following year took over the captaincy from David Sales. "He gave us that bit of experience at a time when we needed it," said Tagg. "There's no doubt he leaves the side in a much better state than when he arrived here." Boje played 43 Tests and 115 one-day internationals for South Africa before retiring from the international scene in 2006.
