Boje retired from international cricket in 2006 to focus on the domestic game |
Northants captain Nicky Boje has resigned from the role, with fellow South African Andrew Hall taking over. The 37-year-old all-rounder led Northants to the Twenty20 Cup finals day last season, but the county has made a modest start to the 2010 season. Boje told BBC Radio Northampton: "It was a tough decision, but the right one at this time of the season. "It's got to a stage where I need to enjoy my cricket and focus on producing good performances." "The team needs to move forward and I felt that the best thing for me was to step down," Boje added. Northants narrowly missed out on promotion to Division One of the County Championship last season, but currently sit eighth of nine in Division Two and have lost all three of their games in the Clydesdale Bank 40. "Everyone is underperforming [compared to] the last couple of years at the moment. "We're trying to play positive and exciting cricket. If we get that confidence going again, we'll be back to our best." Niall O'Brien has been named as vice-captain to all-rounder Hall.
