Northants suffered an 88-run defeat in their opening pre-season friendly against Glamorgan at Wantage Road. The match was cut to 20 overs a side after rain, and the visitors piled up 172-4 with Gareth Rees hitting an unbeaten 42 off just 24 balls. Trialist Theban Taravisi claimed 3-31 in his four-over stint. The Steelbacks then ran into trouble and struggled to 84-8 when the overs ran out, only David Murphy (21 not out) making any sort of impression. Northants will launch their first-class season against Oxford UCCE at The Parks on Saturday 3 April, after the pre-season friendly against Sussex due to be played at Hove on Wednesday 31st March and Thursday April 1st was called off due to bad weather.
