Morgan's 'change up' shot has received plenty of attention

Middlesex and England batsman Eoin Morgan has vowed to use his full armoury of unorthodox batting strokes when he plays for England this summer.

The 22-year-old hit a brilliant 161 against Kent on Monday which included a stunning array of improvised shots.

The left-hander told BBC London 94.9: "It's my game and I plan to stick to it. A lot depends on field placings.

"That determines the sort of shot I play. If it's there to be played, I'll certainly be playing it."

Morgan's early season form has caught the eye of England's selectors who have included him in the squads for the one-day series against the West Indies and the ICC World Twenty20.

The Dubliner already has experience at international level having made his debut for Ireland at the age of 19.

His 161 at Canterbury in the Friends Provident Trophy on Monday was followed by an innings of 62 in the defeat by Warwickshire in same competition the next day.

He said: "I feel in good nick and have done for some time now so it's certainly good to register a couple of scores especially at a crucial time at the moment."

The Morgan stroke that has attracted plenty of attention looks like a double reverse sweep but the man who invented it has his own name for the shot.

He said: "We like to call it 'a change up' because we go for the reverse and it's obviously not there so have to change it up. I've played two or three of them in my career but it's certainly in the locker."
