The win over Northants was Hoggard's first as captain

Matthew Hoggard says Leicestershire can "only get better" after the six-wicket win over Northants in their opening County Championship match this season.

"A three-day, one-hour victory was fantastic. It was a great team effort," Hoggard told BBC Radio Leicestershire. "And we can only get better.

"If we keep on performing like we have done and just doing the basics well we are going to do well this year.

"We are capable of taking 20 wickets and we are capable of scoring runs."

Hoggard also said there is also plenty to work on but said there is strong competition for places.

"There is a lot of room for improvement and we have got other personnel," Hoggard added.

"We have Andrew McDonald coming in as the overseas player, there are a lot of people pushing for places and the guys that have the shirts at the moment have to perform."
