Leicester strengthened their grip on a Championship play-off place and spoiled Gary Johnson's first game in charge of already-relegated Peterborough.
Steve Howard gave the Foxes the lead when he beat Ryan Bennett and drove a low shot in off the far post.
Tommy Rowe's powerful strike levelled the game after he was teed up by substitute Ben Wright.
James Vaughan crossed for Andy King to put Leicester back ahead before Craig Mackail-Smith missed a late chance.
Peterborough boss Gary Johnson: "We performed well for the majority of the game but ended up paying the price for a loss of concentration when Leicester scored their second goal.
"I was trying to get the message across to the lads that they needed to be switched on so soon after scoring ourselves, but it obviously didn't reach all of them.
"If you punch a good side like Leicester on the nose, there is every chance they will hit you straight back - and that is what happened."
Leicester manager Nigel Pearson:
"It was a pretty ugly game, but all that matters at this stage of the season is picking up results.
"We managed to do that and people can make their own minds up about whether we deserved it.
"I felt the application and commitment of the players was first class and they held their nerve at a time when the pressure is really building on the teams involved at the top end of the table."
