Oliver Newby took 25 Championship wickets last season |
Lancashire bowler Oliver Newby has been ruled out for the rest of the domestic season with a knee injury. The right-arm seamer injured his right knee in training and scans have revealed he has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament. Head coach Peter Moores told BBC Radio Lancashire: "It's going to be a long rehab but we'll support him through it. "He's worked really hard and knew it was a big year for him to push for a first-team place." Newby, who has had loan spells with Nottinghamshire and Gloucestershire, will now undergo surgery. The 25-year-old, who made his first-class debut in 2003, is expected to be fit for the start of next season. Moores said: "He'd just got himself in to the one day side at Sussex and did well and then as sometimes can be cruel with sport he's got a bad injury. "Fortunately it's a well trodden path you've just got to do the hard yards and come back strong."
