Morten Gamst Pedersen signs new deal with Blackburn
Allardyce was keen on securing Pedersen's future at Ewood Park
Blackburn midfielder Morten Gamst Pedersen has agreed a new four-year contract to stay at Ewood Park.
The Norwegian international could have left on a free transfer at the end of the season with a number of clubs across Europe expressing an interest.
But Pedersen, 28, said: "Blackburn always was my first choice. We have a united team, great management and brilliant supporters," he said.
Pedersen joined Rovers in 2004 from Norway side Tromso for £1.5m.
He has gone on to make more than 200 appearances for the Lancashire club and scored three goals in their latest Premier League campaign in which Blackburn finished 10th.
Pedersen added: "There aren't many footballers who get the opportunity to stay with one Premier League club for 10 years.
Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce was delighted to have secured Pedersen's signature having admitted at the end of the season that the player, originally signed by Graeme Souness six years ago, may not stay.
"Pedersen is one of our most dedicated and professional players," he said. "We're glad to finally have a contract in place and look forward to the new season."
Blackburn chairman John Williams, who completed the formalities of the deal, added: "Sam made this, together with finding a striker, our summer priority.
"He regards Morten as a key member of the squad and his future at Ewood Park is now secure."
