Newby joins Lancashire team-mate Tom Smith out on loan

Lancashire seamer Oliver Newby has agreed to join Gloucestershire on loan for a month from Monday.

Newby, 23, has figured in just four matches for Lancashire this season.

Lancashire cricket manager Mike Watkinson said he wanted Newby to get some cricket under his belt in case he was needed at Old Trafford.

"We have a very busy schedule of matches towards the end of the season. We will need everyone firing at such an important time," said Watkinson.

"Oliver is short of cricket - this is a good opportunity for him to play competitive first-class cricket until he is required by Lancashire."

Newby is set to make his Gloucestershire debut in their County Championship Division Two fixture against Worcestershire at Cheltenham starting on Wednesday, 30 July.
