Stevens hopeful on Cobras stint

Stevens has been to Twenty20 finals day five times

Kent all-rounder Darren Stevens says he hopes to spend the winter playing for the Cape Cobras in South Africa.

The 33-year-old could play one-day and Twenty20 cricket for the Cobras, who include county team-mate Justin Kemp in their ranks.

Stevens was named the Most Valuable Player in last season's Twenty20 Cup and told BBC Radio Kent: "There's an outside chance I might go to Cape Town.

"I hope it happens, it would be a great experience. It's not about the money."

He added: "It's more about playing in a different continent at their highest level.

And Stevens praised team-mate Joe Denly, who has headed to South Africa with the England one-day party this winter.

"I just said when you get in make sure you get big runs, the same as everybody says to any young cricketer," he added.

Stevens has reached finals day of the Twenty20 Cup five times during his career, and hit 77 from 51 balls as Kent lost to Somerset by seven wickets in one of this summer's semi-finals.

He has just got back to England after playing for his country in the Hong Kong sixes competition.
