Stevens makes T20 history at Kent

Kent batsman Darren Stevens has become the player with the most appearances in the history of the Twenty20 Cup.

The 33-year-old has now played 59 games in the competition, including four visits to finals day.

And Stevens has also become one of the few players to surpass 1,000 runs in Twenty20 form of the game.

He told BBC Radio Kent: "I noticed Darren Maddy had reached 1,000 runs and thought I've got to be close. I was on 800 at the time and now I'm on 1,060."

He added: "I thought I must be up there" Stevens said when told he had played more games in the tournament than any other player in it's six-year history.

Stevens won the competition with Leicestershire in 2004 and again with Kent two years ago, was a beaten finalist on in 2003 and 2008 and claims he has not looked back since moving from Kent to Leicestershire in 2005.

"It's been fantastic, it's regenerated my cricket. It was going stale at Leicester and when I went to Kent it was a fresh start and it was like I was 21 again."

But his one regret is relegation in the County Championship last season for Kent, and he knows that promotion again has to be one of Kent's priorities.

"If you talk to the members there is a bit of pressure in that regard, but as a side, if we play the way we know we can there shouldn't be a problem in us going up."
