Andrew White ended his second innings on 59 not out |
Ireland beat Canada by six wickets in their Intercontinental Cup tie after rain delayed much of the final day's play in Toronto. A record ninth-wicket stand of 121 helped Canada post a second innings of 316 and Ireland were in some trouble after day three on 124-4, chasing 176. Ireland reached their target with more than 30 overs to spare, Andre Botha scoring 61 and Andrew White 59 not out. Canada were 120 all out in their first innings and then Ireland 261 all out. White had scored 84 in Ireland's first innings of the match. Canada had slumped to 190-8 at the close of play on day two - a lead of only 59 runs. However, Ashish Bagai and Khurrman Chohan batted the hosts back into the game with a remarkable ninth-wicket stand. Chohan was eventually dismissed by Kevin O'Brien for 59, with Rory McCann taking the catch. Bagai was then denied a century as he was caught by George Dockrell off O'Brien's bowling for 90. Chasing the 176 target, the Irish suffered an early blow as McCann was dismissed for a duck. Ireland then progressed to 41-1 before Paul Stirling departed for 22. The Irish then pushed their score to 90 before O'Brien was trapped lbw by Rizwan Cheema and the visitors' nerves were further strained before the close when Andre Botha was run out for 61 after going for a ill-advised single.
Ireland squad: Trent Johnston (capt), Andre Botha, George Dockrell, Phil Eaglestone, Allan Eastwood, Nigel Jones, Rory McCann, John Mooney, Kevin O'Brien, Andrew Poynter, Paul Stirling, Albert van der Merwe, Andrew White, Gary Wilson (ODIs only)
