Andrew White on his way to scoring 144 for Ireland at Rathmines |
Ireland wrapped up victory before lunch on day three of the Intercontinental Cup clash against the Netherlands as they won by an innings and 84 runs. Debutants Allan Eastwood and Albert van der Merwe both claimed three wickets on Friday as Holland, who had resumed on 71-4, were all out for 136. It meant an impressive six-wicket match for van der Merwe while Eastwood finished with five wickets. Andrew White and John Mooney both hit centuries in Ireland's 408 total. White top-scored with 144 with Mooney contributing 107. Alex Cusack (43) and Kevin O'Brien (41) had earlier got Ireland's top order going before the partnership of 221 between White and Mooney put the match beyond Holland's reach. The win keeps alive holders Ireland's hopes in the Intercontinental Cup. Ireland went into the game second from bottom in the Intercontinental Cup table after draws against Kenya and Scotland and a defeat by Afghanistan. The Irish will next be in action in the competition against Canada in Toronto in a game which starts on 31 August. The Netherlands' involvement is now over after suffering five defeats in their six games. Ireland will face Holland again on Monday in a one-day international at Clontarf and the sides will be in opposition again at the same venue on Wednesday.
