Andre Botha has been out of action this summer because of injury |
All-rounder Andre Botha is back in the Ireland squad for the upcoming tour games against Canada. Botha has been out of action this summer because of a stress fracture but returns for the Intercontinental Cup match and two one-day games. Fit-again Phil Eaglestone returns after injury but Alex Cusack is ruled out by injury and Niall O'Brien is still unavailable after a finger operation. County-tied William Porterfield, Boyd Rankin are also missing. Surrey's Gary Wilson will be unavailable for the opening four-day Intercontinental Cup game against Canada but will link-up with the Irish squad for the subsequent two one-day games. With Porterfield ruled out, Trent Johnston will again captain the Irish. Cusack requires surgery to cure a long standing injury problem. He is suffering from chronic compartment syndrome, which happens when the muscles don't have room to expand in the fascia which surrounds the muscle nerves. Cusack's recovery period after surgery is expected to take around six weeks.
Ireland squad: Trent Johnston (capt), Andre Botha, George Dockrell, Phil Eaglestone, Allan Eastwood, Nigel Jones, Rory McCann, John Mooney, Kevin O'Brien, Andrew Poynter, Paul Stirling, Albert van der Merwe, Andrew White, Gary Wilson (ODIs only)
