Gloucestershire chief executive Tom Richardson has hailed the arrival of new signing Ian Saxelby. The England under-19 seamer has agreed a three-year contract, having impressed in a trial spell at the County Ground. Richardson told BBC Radio Gloucestershire: "He's got ability and his attitude's spot on so we're hoping for very good things from him. "He's someone who's going to get better and has got a lot of promise but we feel that he can do a job for us now." | We've made the point all along that we want to improve the bowling | West country rivals Somerset were also thought to be interested in Saxelby who made his first-class debut for Gloucestershire against Middlesex in July. And Richardson explained the competition to sign the promising bowler started before his trial spell, as Saxelby had previously been on Nottinghamshire's books. "He spent a lot of time in their academy but he then went off to play rugby and was on a scholarship at Oakham School from Leicester Tigers," he said. "He came back and was playing some cricket in Notts, came down and played with us and we're very pleased that we've secured him. "We've made the point all along that we want to improve the bowling - there's him, there's Richard Dawson who we've also signed and we're looking for an overseas player as well."
