Middx and Glos share the spoils

County Championship, Div Two, Lord's, day four (close)
Middlesex 313-7d drew with Gloucestershire 218 & 161-4
Points: Middlesex 10, Gloucestershire 7

Gloucestershire managed to add a further 131 to their second innings score before their match against Middlesex inevitably ended in a draw.

Resuming the day on 30 at Lord's, the visitors lost Kadeer Ali (25) at 53-1 when he was bowled by Alan Richardson.

Hamish Marshall (22) and Alex Gidman (3) soon followed but opener Will Porterfield (69) and Chris Taylor (38 not out) steadied the innings.

Teenager Steven Finn collected two wickets, with Dawid Malan taking one.

The match had been twice interrupted by rain before a third downpour brought play to a premature close.

Richardson was rewarded for his early persistence when Ali opted to leave an inswinger which uprooted his leg stump.

New batsman Marshall played some stylish shots before he edged Finn to wicketkeeper Ben Scott with the score on 92-2.

But Porterfield brought up his fifth half-century in the championship this season from 108 balls.

The post-lunch interval saw Finn dismiss captain Gidman (3), while Porterfield's knock came to an end when he was adjudged lbw to a leg break from Malan.

Taylor's innings featured three boundaries in one over off Finn before the final rain disruption ended the match an hour before the schedule close.
