Ryan took Gloucester to the Heineken Cup quarter-finals last season |
Gloucester coach Dean Ryan says discipline was the key element in their 22-10 win over Biarritz in the Heineken Cup on Saturday. Gloucester had Olly Morgan yellow carded in the first half, and Ryan told BBC Gloucestershire the way the team coped typified the performance. "A sin binning can turn the game and make it run away from you, but if you score in that time it can work for you. "We just sat in there and defensively did the right things." Gloucester scored their only try late in the first half through James Simpson-Daniel - his 18th in 27 Heineken Cup matches - and then prevented Biarritz taking a losing bonus point with penalties from Olly Barkley and Ryan Lamb. "The scrutiny that you are under at this level is incredible," Ryan added. "Physically Biarritz are a huge side and they can force an intensity onto the game that produces errors, but I found very little to criticise in our performance."
