Derbyshire pair Wayne Madsen and Mark Footitt have signed new two-year contracts at the County Ground.

South Africa-born opener Madsen, 26, scored 1,403 runs, including four first-class centuries last season.

And left-arm paceman Footitt, 24, took 33 wickets in all competitions in his first campaign with the club.

Head of cricket John Morris said: "I am delighted to secure the services of two cricketers who could prove prized assets for the next two years."

Madsen made his debut for the county in 2009 and made an immediate impact, hitting an unbeaten 170 against Gloucestershire - the highest score by a Derbyshire debutant.

Footitt joined the club from Nottinghamshire before the start of the 2010 campaign and played in nine County Championship games, finishing with best figures of 4-78.

Morris added: "In Mark Footitt we have a bowler capable of genuine pace who took promising strides forward in 2010.

"He is aiming to continue that development over the next two years into a front line first-class bowler.

"Wayne Madsen has brought great professionalism and an exemplary attitude to the squad as well as maintaining the happy habit of scoring centuries.

"Both players are now working hard during the winter to attain peak physical fitness before no doubt testing each other out in the nets ahead of the 2011 season."
