Footitt has not played in the Championship since 2007

Nottinghamshire fast bowler Mark Footitt has been released from his contract at Trent Bridge.

The 23-year-old took 23 wickets in nine first-class matches for Notts.

Director of cricket Mick Newell said: "I'd like to thank Mark for his efforts over the past five years and we wish him all the best for the future.

"Hopefully he will have the opportunity to go on trial with another county before the end of the season and get a fresh start."

Footitt missed last season due to a bulging disc in his back and failed to break into the first team this summer.
