Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies insists he is not looking to offload striker Robert Earnshaw.
Earnshaw, 28, has been linked with a £3m move to Newcastle United but Davies told BBC Radio Nottingham he was not interested in selling.
Davies said: "There's been no official approach. We're looking to bring in defensive players, not lose anybody."
Earnshaw was signed by Davies when the Scot was manager of Derby but the Wales forward barely played.
Davies signed strikers David McGoldrick, Dexter Blackstock and Dele Adebola in the summer, meaning the former Cardiff and Norwich frontman has not been a regular in the Reds' side this season, starting just one of the club's first five games.
But Earnshaw was a regular starter under Davies in the second half of last season, and the manager insists he wants to keep last season's leading-scorer at the City Ground.
