Rogers first joined Derbyshire in 2004 |
Batsmen Chris Rogers has agreed a one-year contract to return to Derbyshire as captain next season. The Australian left-hander, 32, missed the opening three games of last season but still scored 1,461 first-class runs last season at an average of 73.05. Head of cricket John Morris said: "He has performed exceptionally well throughout the last two campaigns and we're delighted to welcome him back. "From the captaincy point of view it is great to have continuity." Rogers scored two double centuries and passed 100 six times in 13 first-class matches to keep Derbyshire in the County Championship Division Two promotion race until the final match of the season. The club's player of the season also scored 723 runs in the limited-overs forms of the game. Morris added: "Chris sets a fine example to the rest of the team and really has led the way as captain this year. "The team responded well to Chris as captain of the team last year and I have been delighted by how committed he is to the cause and how keen he is to return to Derbyshire for another season in 2010."
