Paceman Hayward joins Derbyshire

Former South Africa international paceman Nantie Hayward has joined Derbyshire until the end of the season.

The 32-year-old moves to the County Ground on a Kolpak deal, subject to the player obtaining a visa.

"There is a lot of cricket to be played this year and a squad of bowlers is always needed," said Derbyshire head of cricket John Morris.

"To be able to get somebody of Nantie's experience at such short notice is a timely boost for the team."

The capture of Hayward comes after fellow South African seamer Charl Langeveldt was ruled out for the remainder of the campaign with a shoulder injury.

"After the disappointment of losing Charl Langeveldt for the season, it was very important that we brought in somebody to strengthen our bowling department," added Morris.

Hayward played 16 Tests and 21 one-day internationals for the Proteas between 1998 and 2004.

He has taken 431 first-class wickets at an average of 28 and has previously had spells with Hampshire, Middlesex and Worcestershire.
