Paceman Hayward signs for Ireland
Nantie Hayward
Nantie Hayward has played for South Africa
South African fast bowler Nantie Hayward has signed for Ireland for the Friends Provident Trophy campaign.

The 30-year-old has played in 16 Tests for South Africa and in that time has taken 54 wickets at an average of 29.79 with a best bowling display of 5-56.

He has also played in 21 one-day internationals, taking 21 wickets at an average of just over 40.

"I'm delighted to have captured Nantie, who is a proven quality performer," said new Ireland coach Phil Simmons.

"It's been no secret that we've been actively pursuing an opening bowler following Boyd Rankin's return to Derbyshire.

"Nantie is experienced in English conditions and has the extra pace and bounce to trouble country opposition.

"He will be here in time for the weekend double header against Somerset and Hampshire in the Friends Provident Trophy."

Hayward has played domestic cricket in England with both Middlesex and Worcestershire and toured the UK and Ireland with South Africa in 1998.

He played against Ireland at Downpatrick on that trip and claimed the wicket of Ireland opening batsman Kyle McCallan.
