COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO, Canterbury: CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY TWO: Kent 242-3 Surrey 423 (Surrey 5pts, Kent 3pt) 28-31 August 2009
Ramprakash was dismissed for 46 after breaking his thumb |
Mark Ramprakash could be out for the rest of the season after breaking his thumb batting against neighbours Kent. Ramprakash made 46 before falling victim to Simon Cook but the injury he sustained during that cameo could keep him out for up to five weeks. Surrey, who started play on 261-4, were bowled out for 423 as Kent fought back. Geraint Jones, who was dropped first ball, led the way with the bat with a majestic unbeaten 102 that helped take Kent to 242-3. After Rob Key fell early, Jones and Sam Northeast (48) added 91 for the second wicket. Earlier, Ramprakash had been the first wicket of the day to fall but his overnight partner Matt Spriegel (49) helped the score past 350, while some lusty hitting by Tim Linley and Pedro Collins ensured that Surrey exceeded 400.
