James Allenby joined Glamorgan from Leicestershire earlier this month

James Allenby struck a swift 55 as Glamorgan made 383 on day three at the County Ground to ensure a narrow first innings lead of 33 over Northants.

Australian Allenby hit 10 fours to reach his total off just 50 balls, while a much more patient Michael Powell took 171 deliveries for his 55.

Monty Panesar (3-55) was the pick of the Northants bowlers at Wantage Road.

The home side then reduced the arrears on 19-1 before bad light ended play with a draw looking the likely result.
