COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO, The Swalec Stadium: Kent 557-5 beat Glamorgan 317 & 195 by an innings and 45 runs (Glamorgan 4pts, Kent 22pts)
Key hit 24 fours and four sixes as he punished sorry Glamorgan |
Rob Key inspired Kent to a comfortable innings and 45-run victory over Glamorgan by hitting a career-best 270 not out. Resuming on 444-4, Key and Justin Kemp took less than an hour to add a further 113, before Kemp was dismissed for 95. Having declared on 557-5, off-spinner James Tredwell (4-48) took centre stage as Glamorgan mustered a measly 195 in their second innings. Only Michael Powell (60) offered any resistance as Kent eased to victory. Powell had put together a useful looking partnership with Jamie Dalrymple (24), the pair putting on 82 for the fourth wicket after three had fallen in the first five overs. But the home side then crumbled as Kent secured the victory which sees them return to the top of Division Two. Key's memorable knock was the undoubted high-point at the Swalec Stadium, as from 202 not out overnight he surpassed the 221 he hit for England against the West Indies at Lord's in 2004.
