COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO, The Swalec Stadium: CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY ONE: Glamorgan 295-8 (Glamorgan 2pts, Kent 2pts) 15 - 18 July 2009
McLaren picked up figures of 3-41 from 17 overs |
Gareth Rees hit 80 but Glamorgan were pegged back by Ryan McLaren and Simon Cook on day one against Kent at the Swalec Stadium. Rees shared stands of 51 with Herschelle Gibbs (36), 72 with Mike Powell (30) and 69 with Jamie Dalrymple (35) as the hosts reached 192-3. But McLaren (3-41) struck three times to reduce Glamorgan to 209-6. Robert Croft and Mark Wallace led the fightback, but after Croft fell to Cook (3-28), the home side closed on 295-8. After the home side won the toss, Rees managed just a single in the first hour of play, while Gibbs, who struck eight boundaries on his home Championship debut, fell leg before to Cook with the score on 51. | 606: DEBATE |
Cook then had Ben Wright caught by Martin van Jaarsveld for a duck before Rees, first with Powell and then with Dalrymple, led the hosts to a strong position. But, after tea, McLaren removed Rees, Dalrymple and James Harris to put the visitors on top. Croft, who struck six fours in his 45-ball 36, shared 48 with Wallace (23) for the seventh wicket to help the home side recover. But the off-spinner was caught by Geraint Jones to become Cook's third victim and Wallace was caught at first slip by Justin Kemp off the bowling of Amjad Khan to leave Dean Cosker and Adam Shantry to see Glamorgan to the close.
