Northants had no answer to Afzaal's batting prowess

Usman Afzaal hit his first double ton in first-class cricket to put Surrey on the brink of victory at the close on day three against Northamptonshire.

Afzaal hit 27 fours and two sixes in an unbeaten 204 that saw Surrey post 530 and build a first-innings lead of 321.

Northants struggled in their reply, despite Stephen Peters (78) hitting his second half-century of the match.

Andrew Hall added 45 but could not stop Northants slipping to 189-7 and they need 133 runs to make Surrey bat again.
