Gayle blows at Headingley

Tour match (one-day), Headingley: West Indies A 140-2 (29.5 overs) beat Yorkshire 139 all out (39.2 overs)

Boosted by the arrival of three more Test players, West Indies A made short work of Yorkshire in their one-day tour match at Headingley.

Opener Chris Gayle, fresh from a Test double-century against New Zealand just a week ago, crashed 49 as a young Tykes line-up was vanquished by eight wickets.

Gayle was lbw to spinner Richard Dawson, who himself gained a Test cap last winter, but captain Darren Ganga's 57 led the tourists home with more than 20 overs to spare.

Opening bowler Darren Powell, another new arrival, took two wickets, as did Gayle with his off-spin.

But it was Jermaine Lawson who did most damage, taking four for 24 as the hosts were bowled out for 139.

Matthew Wood struck an assured 48, but the fact that no other batsman bettered the extras tally of 19 told its own story.

Once stand-in captain Wood was dismissed, caught off Lawson for 48, the next seven wickets followed for 67 runs, leaving 10.4 overs unused.

Chris Elstub impressed during a 10-over spell costing 31 runs, but Yorkshire's bowlers were facing an uphill battle after their dismal showing with the bat.
