Crosby's Ricky Kniveton will captain the Isle of Man in Belgium |
The Isle of Man's senior cricket side will travel to Belgium on Sunday with high hopes of winning the ICC Europe Division Two Championship. The Manx team narrowly missed out on winning the tournament two years ago in Spain and manager Gareth Dawson says they must win the competition. "We've got a strong side with high hopes and I will see it as a failure if we don't win," he said. The Isle of Man's first game is against Luxembourg in Ostend on Monday. This year the competition will see 11 sides compete in a Twenty20 format, with the Manx team facing a tough schedule of six games in six days, if they are to reach the final. The 11 nations are first split into two leagues and the top two teams in each division will battle it out in the semi-finals. The Isle of Man have been drawn in Group A with Cyprus, Finland, Luxembourg and Portugal. Dawson continued: "We really should be winning these matches, the preparation has gone well and we've got a lot of experience in the squad." Group B contains Malta, Greece, Spain, Sweden, Belgium and Austria. The eventual winner of the competition will qualify for the Division One tournament in the Channel Islands later this year.
Isle of Man: R Kniveton (capt), Danny Kniveton, Ross Berry, Max Stokoe, Dan Hawke, Jaco Jansen, Chris Hawke, Akkie van der Berg, Ross Berry, Peter Lewis, Garreth Roome, Garreth Morris, Seb Aycock, Ollie Webster, Shaun Kelly.
