Lincolnshire have signed bowlers Adam Shepherd and Dan Wheeldon as they look to defend their Minor Counties Championship Eastern Division title. Shepherd, 19, took 12 wickets in three matches for Bedfordshire in 2010, with a best of 5-92 against Herts. Wheeldon, 22, who like Shepherd hails from Nottinghamshire, played for Yorkshire's second XI last year. Director of cricket Mark Fell told BBC Lincolnshire: "They're both quick and both will be good for our side." Lincs, who lost to Dorset in last season's Minor Counties Championship grand final and were also beaten finalists in the MCCA Knockout Trophy, needed to bolster their bowling attack given that Aaron Onyon is now based in Australia and Stuart Airey is suffering from a niggling back problem. Fell said: "I watched Dan last year. He's a big tall lad, a bit like Aaron but perhaps a bit quicker. Adam is a different sort of bowler, similar to Stuart." Lincolnshire's opening match of the season is a one-day game at Cambridgeshire in the MCCA Knockout Trophy on Sunday, 1 May. They begin their Eastern Division campaign against Staffordshire at Sleaford on Sunday, 12 June.
