Grimsby Town duo face legal threat from Boston United
David Newton appointed Hurst and Scott as managers in May 2009
Boston chairman David Newton has confirmed legal proceedings have started against Grimsby Town and their new managers Rob Scott and Paul Hurst.
Newton insists the pair, who, along with Grimsby, have denied any wrong-doing, are in breach of contract by joining the Mariners from Boston.
"I'm very sad because it could have been resolved in a proper way," Newton told BBC Lincolnshire.
"Unfortunately it's going to cost them a lot of money."
Newton says he put terms to Scott and Hurst which would have seen them still be able to join Grimsby immediately but with compensation agreed and with a managed handover.
He claims the pair are still contracted to the Pilgrims until the end of the season and that they cannot resign. At a news conference to unveil the pair, Scott, Hurst and Grimsby insisted they became free agents once they quit Boston.
"Rob and Paul have done a great job for us. We would have liked to have seen them go with our best wishes in the proper way, but unfortunately that didn't happen," added Newton.
"It's very sad really. Rob and Paul could have achieved what they had wanted, Grimsby could have achieved what they wanted and we could have achieved what we wanted.
"Unfortunately we're having to take action against all three parties, which is a sad end to their reign here."
