Guersey make it two cricket inter-insulars in a row |
Guernsey comfortably won the 2010 inter-insular, reaching their target of 196 set by Jersey with six wickets and nine balls to spare at Grainville. After winning the toss Jersey ended their innings on 195-9 with Ed Farley top scoring with 40. Man of the match Jeremy Frith then made an unbeaten 56 as Guernsey made 199-4, with captain Stuart Le Prevost sharing an unbroken fifth-wicket stand of 61. Guernsey picked up the brand new Marlborough trophy after the win. With no batsman looking particularly comfortable and the home side's cause not helped by some poor shot selection, GH Smit took advantage with figures of 4-26. An opening stand of 60 between Ian Atchinson (40) and Lee Savident (26) gave Guernsey the foundation for a well regulated run chase and captain Stuart Le Prevost (31 no) had the pleasure of striking the winning boundary. "Frithy obviously batted superbly, " he told BBC Jersey. "Not one of his most fluent knocks, but one of the most important." Jersey's national coach Craig Hogan paid tribute to the Guernsey performance, but lamented his side's poor showing. "It was a long way short of the standards we want to set in the field, with the bat and with the ball," he said. "Disappointing all-round effort today." The two sides will meet next year in the ICC World Cricket League Division Six tournament, which is likely to be held in Malaysia.
