European glory beckons for Jersey's cricketers

Jersey's Ryan Driver leads the "Most Valuable Player" table so far

Jersey have made it four wins from four to keep their two-point lead at the top of ICC European Division One.

A six-wicket win over Scotland A means they only have to avoid defeat in their last match against Italy on Monday to win their first European title.

Scotland won the toss but were restricted to 149-9 (50 overs).

Jersey were never behind the run rate, and an unbeaten 70 from man-of-the-match Ryan Driver saw the island side home with 11 overs still remaining.

Scotland won the toss and batted, but within 10 overs had been reduced to 20-4. Once again, Jersey's catching was of the top order, and Scotland found themselves 101-9.

Tomorrow is a brand new day - we forget the previous wins

Captain Peter Gough

Only an unbeaten 48 partnership for the last wicket between Zeeshan Bashir (32no) and Tyler Buchan, (10no) saw Scotland reach 149-9 after their 50 overs. Jones finished with 3-36, Driver 2-15, and young spinner Ben Stevens 2-18.

In reply, Buchan's pace caused Jersey problems early on, and from 34-0, Jersey went to 41-3.

But the tournament's second-best partnership of 93 between captain Peter Gough (26) and Driver saw Jersey home with comfort with 11 overs to spare.

Jersey could even afford to slip up at the FB Fields against Italy, providing Ireland lose to Scotland.

Gough told BBC Jersey: "Tomorrow is a brand new day - we forget the previous wins.

"We've been trying to do the little things well throughout the tournament, and we'll just focus on that again on Monday.

"I don't think there's any chance that the boys will be complacent. We've had that once or twice in the past and it's something we never want to do again."

The final group of games all start at 1045.
