Norfolk lose to MCCA Championship visitors Lincolnshire

Norfolk lost the final game of the Norfolk Cricket Festival, with visitors Lincolnshire cruising to an eight-wicket win on Tuesday.

The hosts opened the batting on Sunday, struggling to 92 all out, with Lincolnshire reaching 179 in reply.

Norfolk began the third day on 87-3, but were all out for 139 well before lunch, leaving Lincs requiring just 53.

They reached 54-2 to win the game in the 10th over and inflict Norfolk's first defeat of the summer.

Norfolk's player-coach Chris Brown said the team had a frank discussion in their team meeting after the game ended.

"We've been totally out-played to be honest, we've just addressed where and why that's happened," he told BBC Radio Norfolk.

"More importantly than that is how we're going to ensure that if we get in a similar position we bounce back and react to it," he added.

The team's decision to bat first on Sunday, leading to their paltry first-innings total of 92, raised a few eyebrows, but Brown said it was the correct decision.

"Out of the 20 wickets we lost in the game, not one dismissal was the pitch's fault," he said.

"Some of it was a bit of skill from Matthew Dowman, but 75% was poor shot selection, that's where we've come short and that's what we've just discussed.

"The lads have a couple of club games to try and put that right, but if we had that decision again we'd have definitely batted first," he added.
