Manx spinner Seb Aycock now has eight wickets in three games |
The Isle of Man beat Spain by 60 runs at Mullen-e-Cloie to make it three wins out of three in the ICC European Division Two Championships. The result means the Manx side top group B ahead of their final match with Austria on Wednesday. Manx coach Gareth Dawson said: "It was a really good performance against a strong Spanish side. It's in our own hands now." The group B winner will face the winner of group A in the final on Thursday. Dawson added: "We are growing in confidence with every game. Our fielding was much better today and Rowan Bird's 50 was a great knock." The island opened the batting but found themselves in trouble at 53-4. Then Rowan Bird and Shaun Kelly came together for a important stand of 102. Bird was finally bowled for 50, with Kelly scoring 39 not out, as the Manx piled on 165-6 from 40 overs. The Spanish openers made an impressive start but continued pressure and solid work in the field meant they were all out for 105 off 33 overs. Seb Aycock was the pick of the Manx bowlers with 3-20. The 14-year-old now has eight wickets in the tournament. Meanwhile, Italy top group A after beating Gibraltar by 94 runs. The Italians have also won all three of their matches.
