Paul Goodwin's side were frustrated by the weather against Cumberland |
Persistent rain at Knypersley ended Staffordshire's hopes of forcing a victory in their first Championship match of the season against Cumberland. No action was possible on day three of a rain-affected encounter and the match finished as a predictable draw. The visitors were 41-1 in their second innings, after being bowled out for 141 on day one and conceding a first-innings deficit of 95. Staffordshire took 10 points from the match and the visitors eight. Fast bowler Dave Edwards had been the star with the ball for Staffordshire taking 4-54, as Cumberland collapsed on a rain-reduced first day, while Greg Willott and Alex Stead took three wickets apiece. In reply, Staffs reached 236-9 with Jimmy Dawson top-scoring with 44.
