Isle of Man come second in Spain

Despite winning four of their five matches, the Isle of Man cricket team narrowly missed out on winning European Division Three in Spain on Saturday.

In their final game the Manx side beat Spain by 100 runs to finish on the same points tally as Israel.

Despite recording other wins over Portugal, Belgium and Malta, the Isle of Man finished behind Israel, who had a higher net wicket run-rate.

Israel will now play Croatia in a Division Two play-off game.

Island Coach Gareth Dawson said: "I am delighted with the team's performance this week but obviously it is frustrating to come so close."

Earlier in the summer the Isle of Man's under-19 and u-15 teams also finished second in their respective European tournaments.

"It's been quite a summer and I think the future of cricket on the Isle of Man looks very bright indeed," Dawson added.
