The Isle of Man's U-19 cricket team started their ICC European Championship campaign on Monday with a 47 run victory over Italy in Belgium. The Manx side won the toss and batted first in the Division Two opener, making 177-9 off their 50 overs. Skipper Max Stokoe and Jack Rowlands hitting 34 and 32 respectively. Italy looked on course for victory, when they reached 77-4 from their first twenty overs, but their final six wickets fell for just 53 runs. Alex Stokoe was the pick of the Manx bowlers with 3-26 from his 7.4 over spell. The result sees the Isle of Man move into second place in the table, level on points with Israel and Belgium who also recorded wins on Monday. The Isle of Man will now take on France in Antwerp on Tuesday. All six of the Manx sides opponents in the competition come from Associate Status countries, while the Island is the only side to have the lower Affiliate ranking.
