Lincolnshire beat Cambridgeshire by 156 runs at March to reach the quarter-finals of the MCCA Knockout Trophy. Martyn Dobson (110) and Mathew Dowman (131) put on 206 for the third wicket as Lincs made 305-7 in their 50 overs. Spinner Karanjit Bansal then took 6-47, a county record for the competition as Cambridgeshire were dismissed for 149. Director of Cricket Mark Fell told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "We set out to make a big score and bowl them out and everything went well for us." Dowman's 131 equalled Fell's 2002 record individual score by a Lincolnshire batsman in the competition. And Bansal's bowling figures were the best by a county bowler, beating Stuart Fletcher's 5-54 against Buckinghamshire in 1994. But the 17-year-old had not been expecting to play at the start of the day, only to be called up to replace Gareth Clough. | Karanjit's got a long way to go but he's coming along nicely and he's going to be a talented player |
He admitted: "I'm proud, but I'd been expecting to be 12th man and carrying drinks all day. "But when I got here I heard that Cloughie wasn't playing so I thought 'I've got another opportunity to prove what I can do' and I grabbed it." Fell added: "Karanjit's got a long way to go but he's coming along nicely and he's going to be a talented player." In a repeat of last year's quarter-final, as winners of Group Four, Lincolnshire will now be at home to their 2008 conquerors Norfolk. They also face Norfolk in their opening Minor Counties Eastern Division match which begins at Sleaford next Sunday (7 June).
