Jersey are left fighting a relegation battle in the ICC World Division Four Championships in Tanzania after a 124-run defeat to Afghanistan.

Jersey's batting again failed them as they were dismissed for just 79 in the 35th over chasing Afghanistan's 203-9.

Jersey coach Peter Kirsten said after two straight defeats the side's focus was now on remaining in Division Four.

"We now need to win the remaining three games to stay in Division Four, this is now our plan," he told BBC Jersey.

Afghanistan won the toss and batted and despite no partnership reaching 40 they frequently threatened to get on top of Jersey's bowling.

However, wickets at important stages throughout their innings curtailed their run scoring. The pick of the Jersey bowling were youngsters Anthony Kay, with 1-29 from his 10 overs, and Sam Dewhurst, with 2-26 off five.

With the batting, we're giving it away too easily, the boys seem to be struggling

Jersey coach Peter Kirsten
Afghanistan's top score was a controlled and classy 60 from their captain and opener Karim Khan.

Kirsten thought Jersey's fielding needed direction: "Dropped catches and no desperation in the field and Afghanistan's 203 could have been 160."

When it was Jersey's turn to bat, once again they did not help themselves.

Too many wickets were given away, although the Afghan bowling and fielding was of the highest quality.

"Again, with the batting, we're giving it away too easily, the boys seem to be struggling," said Kirsten.

Jersey top scorer was Steve Carlyon with just 17.

Only three boundries were recorded in the entire Jersey innings, and one of those was from overthrows.

Jersey now have a day to regroup before they play Italy, a match they must win if they want to stay in Division Four.
