Teenage Norfolk cricketer Jaik Mickleburgh hit a half-century in his maiden first-class innings for Essex in their win over Leicestershire.

The 18-year-old Horsford player made 60 on day two of the County Championship match (Thursday) in a 128-run stand with James Foster.

Mickleburgh has a youth contract at Essex but has previously played for Norfolk in the Minor Counties.

"Hopefully I can go on and do well at this standard," he told BBC Essex.

His innings included six fours and two sixes before he was out lbw.

Essex wrapped up the victory on day two to win the match by an innings and 74 runs.

Debutant Mickleburgh, who was brought up playing club cricket in Norfolk, said: "After some good performances for the second XI I thought I was ready to make the step-up.

"There is a big difference at this level, everything is so much more intense and everyone is professional. You have to be patient with the bowlers.

"I didn't expect to have two days off but it is great for the team and good for me to get a win in my first game."
