Chris Brown took two wickets on the final day at Burnham |
Norfolk's final Minor Counties Championship match of the summer petered out into a draw on Tuesday. Buckinghamshire had reached 201-5 in their second innings, a lead of 146, when rain ended the match at tea on the final day. Norfolk have failed to win any of their six Championship matches and could not wrestle the initiative at Burnham. Bucks had started the final day 55-runs behind but some watchful batting saw them safely negotiate 83 overs. It was a much-improved batting display after Buckinghamshire had been bowled all out for just 149 on the opening day with George Walker taking 5-35. Fellow spinner Chris Brown weighed in with 4-48 as the home side lost wickets at regular intervals. Brown took six wickets in the match adding 2-59 on the final day. In reply Norfolk posted 204 all out with Trevor Ward making 76. Their top order initially struggled with James Spelman first out for a duck, leaving them on 0-1. | It's probably one of the most favourable wickets I've bowled on all season Norfolk spinner George Walker |
His fellow opener Rob Purton soon followed for just four runs and skipper Carl Rogers was given out lbw for 18. Walker told BBC Radio Norfolk the pitch had provided plenty of help for the spinners on day one. "It's probably one of the most favourable wickets I've bowled on all season." Said Walker who played a starring role just a day after helping Swardeston win the East Anglian Premier League title.
